Rotating Sculpture of Franz Kafka’s Head

Books By

Installed at Prague’s Quadrio shopping center in 2014, this kinetic sculpture, depicting writer Franz Kafka’s head, is the work of Czech artist David Cerny. The transforming piece of art, entitled “K on Sun,” is comprised of 42 layers of reflective steel, and weighs 39 tons. The ever-changing nature of “K on Sun” reflects Kafka’s profound intellectual ambivalence, demonstrated by the near-simultaneous comedic and serious philosophic elements present throughout his writing. Watch the sculpture in action below.
