Hedge fund billionaire Steve Cohen spent a whopping $165 million on the painting fittingly titled “Masterpiece” by Roy Lichtenstein.

The painting, purchased earlier this week, is now considered to be among the 10 most expensive paintings ever sold. The giant Ben-Day dot painting was part of Lichetenstein’s iconic style, based on comic book panels and was first exhibited at Ferus Gallery in 1963.

Cohen is known to be an avid art collector and trader with his collection valued at over $1 billion, reports Luxury Launches.

He recently sold a Jean Michel Basquiat painting called “La Hara” through Christie’s for $34.9 million, which was way over the estimated price of $22 million to $28 million.

Cohen displays part of his collection at his firm’s offices in Stanford, Connecticut and other works at his home in Greenwich.
