Sotheby’s France is selling a Jean-Michel Basquiat/Andy Warhol joint work from Sir Elton John’s contemporary art collection on the evening of June 7th. Pre-auction estimates for the painting are between $785,000 to $1.1 million. As the story goes, Basquiat approached one of his idols, Warhol, in a café in 1980; and apparently, he said all the right things, because four years later, they collaborated on the piece.
