Canadian Couple Built Their Own Floating Island Home

August 29, 2016 5:00 am

A quarter century ago, Catherine King and her husband Wayne Adams set out to build their own floating island, which they dubbed “Freedom Cove.” It’s currently moored in a secluded cove by Canada’s Vancouver Island—but that, of course, is subject to change. (That’s one of the perks of having your own floating island.)

Freedom Cove consists of 12 tethered sections, including a main living house, four greenhouses, a lighthouse building, and a dance floor. Its estimated weight is 500 tons (1 million pounds) and everything was constructed with a handsaw and hammer. Watch a video on it below.
